As plasma screen TVs become increasingly popular, there is growing competition between electronic manufacturers to corner the market. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the behemoth 50’’ 2009 ‘Series 8’ offers a huge assortment of features, comes in full HD, and has a picture quality arguably unequaled in the world of home entertainment. Its sticker price is around four times that of the ‘Series 4’.
While the 2009 line is phenomenal, consumers looking to save some money should investigate the 2008 models. The 2008 Samsung plasma TVs are by no means obsolete, and since releasing their newer versions, the company has come down substantially on the sticker price of year old products.
Samsung’s two main competitors in the plasma screen market, Panasonic and Pioneer, offer similar top-of-the-line 50’’ plasma screens. While the Pioneer ‘Kuro’ is comparable to Samsung’s ‘Series 8’, the ‘Kuro’ may have a few more features and slightly better picture- although the ‘Series 8’ is generally considered to be the better bargain of the two.
While consumer reports rate it positively, Panasonic’s high end model, the ‘TH’, falls just under the ‘Series 8’ in most polls. Even further down the line you have the Runco ‘Cinemawall’, which is not generally considered as being in the same league quality wise with the Samsung plasma TVs.
