The main advantage of a plasma screen is that of the better colour performance when compared to other screens. It offers a slim and lightweight body making it ideal for hanging on your wall – great for that designer living room effect as well as saving on your floor space. The viewing angle of a Plasma screen TV is much broader than many other television displays too.
The disadvantages of a plasma screen include higher electricity usage (more power is required to produce the brilliantly enriched picture of a plasma TV (especially when the screen becomes brightened up) than a Liquid Crystal Display unit (LCD). One other disadvantage of the plasma screen is that nowhere will you be able to find a screen less than 32 inches. With a Plasma Screen TV, the bigger the better!
The biggest plasma screen ever seen was that at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show. Produced by Panasonic and measuring six feet by eleven, the 150 inch screen couldn’t fail to stop people in their tracks. Plasma screens push the boundaries of television technology to the extent that many of us fancy the idea of becoming the envy of our neighbours with our very own piece of the action on our living room walls.
Prices vary according to the size and make of screen but a 42 inch plasma screen TV can be bought for around £450.
How long do they last? A plasma screen should last us between 12 and 55 years, according to the manufacturers…but these figures do depend upon the extent to which we succeed or fail to drag ourselves away from our plasma screen’s viewing pleasure!
