LCD televisions currently dominate the market place at affordable prices and their popularity continues to grow. In terms of turnover, the LCD has produced greater results than its competitors the rear projection TV and plasma TV.
What of the Plasma TV? Plasma television screens comprise of two panels filled with noble gas containing cells. Plasma screens are similar to LCD screens in that they are slim in design and lightweight.
In terms of energy efficiency, the winner of the LCD Plasma TV debate is definitely LCD. The plasma screen requires a considerable amount of power to run. To light up a plasma screen a greater amount of power is required than when the screen is dark. An LCD by comparison is far more economical to run. That said, the LCD is less efficient in terms of its power usage because much of the light that should come through to the screen is blocked before it gets there.
Another advantage that the LCD has over the Plasma is that the consumer can purchase one at any size whereas the plasma is not produced any smaller than 32 inches.
Another advantage the LCD has over the plasma screen is that they are less expensive but this is where the handicap ends. What the plasma screen offers for the price is worthwhile in that there is a wider viewing angle and much improved colour reproduction.
In the LCD Plasma TV debate, on the matter of longevity, which will last the longest? This is a difficult one to answer but it has been confirmed that the plasma will last between 12 and 55 years depending upon how much telly the customer enjoys watching.
Which is better? You decide.
